Less than one week left for guidelines proposals!

The deadline to submit proposals for new ESCMID-funded guidelines projects is on 1st of November 2020!

ESCMID members and ESCMID Study Groups are invited to submit proposals for clinical practice guidelines projects in the following topics: 

  1. Diagnosis and treatment of Community Acquired Pneumonia;
  2. Diagnosis and treatment of Brain Abscess management;
  3. Update of the 2014 ESCMID guideline of prevention of infections due to MDR-GN

ESCMID Parity Commission: call for one new member!

ESCMID is happy to announce an open call for one ESCMID Parity Commission (PC) member position. Eligible for applying for the position are all ESCMID members who are sensitized in issues regarding parity and equity in the CM/ID professional area. Applicants with a record of active engagement in such subjects will be preferred.

Important: In accordance with ESCMID policy, the PC aims to maintain geographic distribution among their members. For this reason, applications from France, Switzerland and Italy will not be accepted.

Apply now by sending a motivation letter (max 500 words) along with a short CV (max 2 pages) at science@escmid.org

ESCMID Ethics Advisory Committee: new members selected!

ESCMID is happy to announce the establishing of a new committee meant to advise the Executive Committee (EC) and other ESCMID members on ethical issues that may arise.

The ESCMID Ethical Advisory Committee (EEAC) will be an independent body with the main duty of counselling on specific ethical, regulatory, social and philosophical issues related to ESCMID funded-research projects and scientific behaviour of members or appointed persons in matters related to ESCMID activities. 
After the call issued in August 2020 to invite interested professionals to join the Committee, the EC has selected the four members that will serve in the EEAC starting from January 2021 for a two-years term:

  • Aleksandra Barac, Serbia
  • Asma Nasim, Pakistan
  • Elda Righi, Italy
  • Dafna Yahav, Israel

We are looking forward to start collaborating with them, in this important new task for ESCMID!

TAE Survey: The Role of ID and CM trainee in the COVID-19 Pandemic

The Training Association of ESCMID (TAE) has developed in collaboration with RéJIF (Network of young French ID physicians; Réseaux des Jeunes Infectiologues Français)" a new Survey in 2020 on a very up to date topic. All Young Scientists are requested to participate!

The objective of the TAE survey is to evaluate the role of trainees during the first wave of the pandemic, the impact on their training and their opinion on the role of infectious disease specialists and clinical microbiologists in the management of this crisis.

The results of this survey will be communicated during ECCMID 2021 in Vienna.

CMI highlight: Clinical course and outcomes of critically-ill patients with COVID-19 infection: A systematic review

The present systematic review represents a synthesis of currently available data on the patients admitted to the ICU for COVID-19, with a focus on the main clinical outcomes, interventions used and advanced life support measures. 32 studies and reports were identified, providing relevant data on ICU utilization of a high number of patients with COVID-19 during a time of scarce resources. Patients with COVID-19 admitted to the ICU have high need for invasive support, high mortality, and prolonged LOS in the ICU.
