An outbreak of nosocomial cases of COVID-19 emerged with RT-PCR tests repeatedly negative on nasopharyngeal samples but positive on lower respiratory tract samples. WGS revealed a new variant, B.1.616. This study analyses the characteristics and outcomes of related cases, high lethality was found.
