ESCMID Study Group Research Grants 2020: apply now!

Also in 2020, ESCMID will support Study Group research projects in the fields of clinical microbiology and infectious diseases. The call to apply for the ESCMID Study Group Research Grants is officially opened and the deadline for submitting your applications is 27 July 2020, 17:00 CEST.

ESCMID Conference on Corona Virus Disease (ECCVID) – Emerging threats, emerging solutions

ESCMID is very pleased to announce that it will be hosting the first virtual congress specifically dedicated to COVID-19. The ESCMID Conference on Corona Virus Disease, (ECCVID), will take place across three days from Wednesday 23rd to Friday 25th September 2020, and will cover all aspects of the COVID-19 threat.

CMI highlight: A multiple center clinical evaluation of an ultra-fast single-tube assay for SARS-CoV-2 RNA

In the present study authors report a multicentre clinical evaluation of a single-tube reverse transcription recombinase-aided amplification (RT-RAA) assay for SARS-CoV-2, through analysis of 947 clinical samples from five institutions in four regions of China.

This RT-RAA kit was first launched on Jan 29, 2020 and passed the external quality assessment of National Institute for Viral Disease Control and Prevention (IVDC), Chinese Center for disease control and prevention (CCDC) and Beijing CDC.

Results obtained showed that, with comparable sensitivity and specificity to the commercial qRT-PCR kits, the RT-RAA assay for SARS-CoV-2 exhibited distinctive advantages of simplicity and rapidity in terms of operation and turn-around time.
