Application for SG Research Grants

Prof. Mary Horgan has been appointed as the new Director of the Education Subcommittee

We welcome Prof. Mary Horgan as the new ESCMID Education Director. In this new role, she will shape the development of the ESCMID eAcademy and other educational activities.

Prof. Mary Horgan is the President of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, former Dean of the School of Medicine at UCC and Consultant Physician in Infectious Diseases at Cork University Hospital. She was the first woman to be appointed as Dean of the Medical School in University College Cork. Prof. Horgan was also elected as President of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland, the first women to hold this position since the College's foundation in 1654. She has served as a ministerial appointment on a number of health service-related National boards. She has a research interest in the fields of medical education and infectious diseases.

ECDC Seeks New Director

The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has announced the recruitment of a new Director. This institution has a pivotal role in clinical microbiology and infectious diseases. As Europe's disease prevention and control agency, ECDC provides valuable scientific data, opinions, and coordination.

The call for Individual Research Grants opens tomorrow

ESCMID Research Grants help young outstanding investigators pursue ground-breaking research in the fields of clinical microbiology and infectious diseases. The call to apply for the ESCMID Research Grants 2024 will officially open 21 June 2023 and the deadline for submitting your applications is 13 September 2023, 17:00 CEST.

A public consultation phase is open for ESCMID guidelines on diagnosis and treatment of brain abscess. ESCMID members wishing to comment on the manuscript should write to guidancedocuments@escmid.org indicating their ESCMID membership number. The deadline to provide feedback and comments is 27 June 2023.
