EUCAST General Consultation on Breakpoints for Corynebacterium diphtheriae and Corynebacterium ulcerans
EUCAST is developing breakpoints and methods for the susceptibility testing of Corynebacterium diphtheriae and C. ulcerans. A proposal is now posted on the EUCAST general consultation web page inviting comments no later than 11 September 2022. Together with specialists in Paris and Munich, 200 isolates of each species were investigated with broth microdilution MIC determination and disk diffusion as a backdrop for EUCAST to propose clinical breakpoints and testing methodology.
The course, “Paediatric infection management for the microbiologist, infection specialist and antimicrobial pharmacist” takes place in Veyrier-du-Lac, France, 5 – 6 September 2022. Registration is now open, until 4 August 2022.
The course consists of seven online self-paced modules with recorded talks and assignments. A live seminar will be scheduled for each module, for experts to answer your questions. The first module will launch on 7 November 2022. Join the mailing list here to be notified when registration opens.

Transmissibility in early phase of 2022 monkeypox epidemic
This study estimated the basic reproductive number (Ro) to understand and control the spread of monkeypox in immunologically-naive populations. Smallpox vaccination has been shown to be effective in protecting (up to 85% effectiveness) against monkeypox infection in earlier times.
