ESCMID support for your research projects

ESCMID offers about 750,000 EUR annually to support research projects in the fields of clinical microbiology and infectious diseases. This support comes in the form of individual research grants to young investigators and as a part of our ESCMID Study Groups, which are free to join for all ESCMID members. These grants help to promote collaboration and innovation, pushing the boundaries of our specialties. Check out current calls and deadlines on our website.

Apply now for the ESCMID-ECDC observership

The new call for the ECDC observership will be open until 28 June 2023. The observership period is set for 16-20 October 2023. A group of 20 observers are offered a 5-day programme at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) in Solna, Stockholm County, Sweden.

Applications for the ISID / ESCMID fellowship close next week

Applications are open until 16 June 2023 for the International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) & ESCMID Fellowship! This fellowship seeks early-career investigators from low and lower-middle-income countries outside of the region to travel to Europe for multidisciplinary clinical and laboratory training.

Dr. Holger Rohde has been appointed as the new Director of the AMR Action Subcommittee

We welcome Dr. Holger Rohde as the new Director of the AMR action Subcommittee. In this new role, he will shape the development and strategy of the new subcommittee, as well as managing the ESCMID AMR and early drug development activities.
Holger Rohde is a medical microbiologist and deputy director at the Institute for Medical Microbiology, Virology and Hygiene / University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE). He is a professor of Molecular Medical Microbiology, and leader of a research group focussing on pathogenesis of staphylococcal diseases and implant associated infections. Scientific activities include epidemiology and mechanisms of resistance in nosocomial Gram-positive and -negative pathogens, and implementation of new generation techniques to improve pathogen detection in clinical specimens.

This course aims at giving an overview of the existing technologies and platforms to implement WGS and tNGS. It will provide an update on end-to-end solutions and accessibility, the interpretation of genomic data for clinical management of drug-resistant tuberculosis, and the use of WGS for the management of infections by non-tuberculous mycobacteria (NTM). The role of genotypic and phenotypic DS, the laboratory reporting of molecular data, and real-life cases on suitable diagnostic algorithms will also be discussed.
