ECCMID Individual Registration is now open!

Registration for the 31st European Congress of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (ECCMID) is now open!

Be sure to secure your place for the world’s premier meeting in the field of infection, taking place both onsite in Vienna, Austria, as well as online, in an innovative hybrid format.

Until the earlybird deadline on 21 April 2021, Full Registration (including both in-person and online access) is reduced the same price as Online-only Registration, allowing financially risk-free registration in case of the congress being online-only.

Via ESGIE: Survey about the standard of care in hospitalized patients with COVID-19: comparison between the first and second wave

The ESCMID Study Group for Infections in the Elderly (ESGIE) has released a short questionnaire which aims at comparing standard of care of patients with COVID-19 between the two first waves. There are also specific questions concerning patients >65 years old.

This anonymous survey will take no more than 10 minutes to be completed and will allow better understanding of the evolution of practice since the beginning of the pandemic.

14th Paris Hepatology Conference (PHC) – Discounted Registration for ESCMID Members

The 14th Paris Hepatology Conference (PHC) on March 8-10, 2021. The PHC is an independent educational meeting on the Management of Liver Disease. This year, there will be a special focus on the advances in the diagnosis and therapy of NASH and hepatocellular carcinoma.

In 2021, the conference is completely digital. PHC is offering ESCMID Members reduced registration fees (100 €) and free registration to young fellows (residents, fellows, young researchers).

European Examination in Medical Microbiology

The UEMS Section of Medical Microbiology, in partnership with ESCMID, is developing an examination which once developed will lead to a European Specialist Diploma in Medical Microbiology. 

The examination will assess knowledge based on the UEMS Section of Medical Microbiology core curriculum and current European best practice guidelines.

The PILOT examination will take place online on March 24th 2021 from 15:00 – 17:00 CET, and is offered free of charge. Interested parties are asked to register for the pilot by March 1, 2021.

All participating candidates will be offered a 50% reduction of the entry fee for one sitting of the diploma examination in the following two years.

CMI highlight: Defining the role of asymptomatic and pre-symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 transmission – a living systematic review

Reports suggest that asymptomatic individuals (those with no symptoms at all throughout infection) with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) are infectious, but the extent of transmission based on symptom status requires further study. 

This living review aims to critically appraise available data about secondary attack rates from people with asymptomatic, pre-symptomatic and symptomatic SARS-CoV-2 infection. 

From the analysis of the studies included it emerges that asymptomatic patients can transmit SARS-CoV-2 to others, but such individuals are responsible for fewer secondary infections than people with symptoms.
